Panama is set to play its final World Cup Group L match against England at MetLife Stadium in New York City on June 27, 2026, amid widespread criticism of the stadium's playing surface.
The pitch conditions in New York have drawn scrutiny from several tournament figures, raising concerns about player fatigue and physical strain as the knockout stage approaches.

Pitch Quality Under Fire
France head coach Didier Deschamps expressed significant dissatisfaction with the venue following his team's recent 3-1 group stage victory over Senegal at the same location.
"We have played in the heat (at MetLife) so, if there is some rain, good, because the grass will be faster and the quality will be better, much better than the one in New York.
The pitch in New York was really tough — it took a lot out of the players’ muscles," Deschamps said.
France midfielder Adrien Rabiot echoed his manager's sentiments, describing the New York surface as "more like an artificial pitch … hard and rigid."
Panama's Optimism Despite Defeat
Panama enters the match following a 1-0 defeat to Croatia, but head coach Thomas Christiansen maintained an optimistic outlook regarding his squad's effort.
"We need to congratulate the team, not because of the outcome but the way they played with that hunger and spirit.
