Last year, Sky chief executive Dana Strong assured employees the broadcaster would continue supporting Sky News independently of Comcast backing.

Comcast has recently made several operational adjustments, including not renewing the Sky News brand licensing agreement in Australia, leading to a rebranding as News24.

It also exited its joint venture in Sky News Arabia and completed the spin-off of several US cable networks into a separate company called Versant.

Sky is approaching the official announcement of its £1.6 billion acquisition of ITV's media and entertainment operations.

If approved by regulators, the spin-off entity will hold a 40% stake in ITN, making it the largest shareholder in the news provider that supplies programming for ITV, Channel 4, and Channel 5.
