England winger Noni Madueke said on Tuesday that he anticipates a highly defensive strategy from the Democratic Republic of the Congo in their FIFA World Cup round of 32 knockout match on Wednesday.

The fixture in Atlanta follows England's goalless draw against Ghana, where the opposition used a compact defensive setup to limit the English attackers.

Madueke, who plays for Arsenal, has started two matches and come off the bench once under manager Thomas Tuchel during his first major international tournament.

Speaking at a press conference, the winger expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play in the World Cup.

"It's a dream come true to compete in the World Cup," said Madueke. "I'm grateful for the opportunity."

He noted that England achieved its first objective by advancing from the group stage and that individual players must deliver in the knockout rounds.

"It's been a good experience, the first objective was achieved, so I'm really happy about that and I'm looking forward to the knockout stages now," said Madueke.

"You have to feel like you can step up, you're a top player, you're here for a reason."

Madueke emphasized the mindset required to perform at the highest level for your country.

"You're playing for your country on the biggest stage and you have to have the excessive confidence in your ability," said Madueke.

"Knockout football is where it's at, so I'm trying to be at my best for that."
