We are going to be disciplined in the marketplace and make sure we do our best to make the team the best possible," said Chayka.
Toronto is also evaluating its goaltending situation, where options remain open despite confidence in their current internal options.
"We have this really interesting goalie pipeline. Part of our evaluation is the young guys and what they've shown.
We are trying to balance that. Anthony Stolarz has been, by our models, a top goalie over the last two years.
Obviously, health and durability has been the question," said Chayka.
The executive noted that durability concerns exist with any acquisition, forcing the team to seek a balanced solution for the critical role.
"But we can't guarantee that it will be different with another goalie we bring in. That is always a bit of a question mark.

We are trying to find some balance in all of that. But it is a key position.
If there is a chance to make it better, like any position, we will do that," said Chayka.
Speculation surrounding Toronto's strategy has circulated widely across the league, with insiders noting the front office is among the most engaged in discussions.
"Going into the draft, they were considered…I talked to a bunch of teams and some agents, and all the word around the league was they're the most active team, or at least one of the most active teams that are out there.
