Municipalities across Calgary, Central Alberta, and the Foothills launched a wide array of activities to celebrate Canada's 159th birthday on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.

Calgary anchored its festivities with a main stage musical lineup at Prince’s Island Park featuring Jamie Fine and Walk off the Earth.

The celebrations culminated in an 11 p. m.

fireworks display launched from Stampede Park.

According to city officials, the Max Bell Centre parking lot served as the primary public viewing location for the fireworks due to ongoing preparations for the upcoming Calgary Stampede.

Local transit services operated on a Sunday schedule to accommodate the crowds.

Community celebrations simultaneously took place in surrounding areas such as Airdrie, Cochrane, and Banff.

Central Alberta and Foothills Events

Regional communities like Eckville, Lacombe, and Stettler hosted public barbecues, historical museum openings, and community markets alongside their scheduled evening fireworks.
