Serena Williams sustained a right knee injury during her singles comeback match at Wimbledon on Tuesday, jeopardizing her scheduled doubles appearance alongside sister Venus Williams.
The 44-year-old American and 23-time Grand Slam singles champion experienced swelling in her knee during a highly anticipated return to Centre Court, her first singles match at the tournament in 1,462 days.

Williams lost the opening round to 20-year-old Maya Joint of Australia 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, reportedly playing through pain in the final set against medical advice.
Injury Details and Recovery Efforts
Following the defeat, tournament organizers excused Williams from post-match media duties due to the physical toll of the injury.
"Serena tweaked her right knee at the end of the first set and was therefore excused from her media obligations by the Wimbledon and WTA medical teams," said Jill Smoller, Williams' agent.

Smoller noted that Williams left the grounds without assistance that evening and is doing everything possible to be ready for the doubles match.
"She left site that night unaided and is doing everything she can to be ready for her doubles match later this week," Smoller added.

The six-time Wimbledon doubles champions are scheduled to reunite on a Grand Slam court for the first time since 2022 on Friday.
