A building high pressure system over the southeastern United States is generating hotter and drier weather across Savannah, Georgia, on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.

Wednesday morning temperatures starting in the mid to upper 70s will climb rapidly under sunny skies into the lower and middle 90s.

Atmospheric humidity is expected to push afternoon heat index values up to 100 or 105 degrees Fahrenheit.

Intensifying Heat Through the Week

The extreme weather pattern will intensify on Thursday as morning lows in the lower to middle 70s transition into afternoon highs in the middle to upper 90s.

Rising humidity levels could push Thursday's heat index past 105 degrees Fahrenheit.

An extended stretch of intense heat and humidity will establish itself on Friday afternoon and persist into early next week.

Afternoon high temperatures will remain in the mid to upper 90s, while peak heat index values are projected to approach 110 degrees Fahrenheit at times.

The excessive atmospheric heat may trigger a few strong, isolated thunderstorms and scattered showers between Friday and the weekend.

Although significant rainfall is unlikely for most locations, damaging wind gusts will be the primary hazard associated with these storms.

In the Atlantic basin, tropical weather activity remains quiet as the National Hurricane Center stopped monitoring any areas for potential development.

Meteorologists expect no tropical cyclone formation over the next five to seven days.

A deep layer of Saharan dust is actively suppressing significant convective thunderstorm development across the main development region.

This specific atmospheric suppression is projected to continue limiting tropical storm activity for at least the next few weeks.
