Tick populations and Lyme disease cases are rising steadily across the United Kingdom, extending from traditional heathlands into urban parks and gardens, as reported by The Guardian.

The surge in tick activity has prompted renewed public health warnings regarding the risks of contracting tick-borne infections while spending time in grassy or wooded areas throughout the country.

Official data indicates that infected ticks are now present in every county in the UK, with particularly high-risk zones identified in the Scottish Highlands, south and south-west England, and parts of East Anglia.

The rise in cases follows recent social media discussions regarding celebrities and pop stars filming videos or lounging in long grass, which prompted public concern about potential exposure to the blood-feeding arachnids.

"i won’t lie i was really stressed about this." said Charli xcx, Pop Star.

The organization Lyme Disease UK noted that while public awareness is crucial, the current period represents the peak of the annual tick cycle, with environmental changes altering traditional seasonal patterns.

"We’re at the peak of tick season at the moment." said Julia Knight, Representative, Lyme Disease UK.

The organization further noted that the geographic distribution of the arachnids has expanded significantly beyond remote areas.

"They have been found in urban parks and gardens." said Julia Knight.

The actual number of annual Lyme disease cases in the UK remains difficult to quantify compared to European neighbors due to limitations in data collection methods, as official counts rely solely on laboratory-confirmed instances.
