Former Sparta Rotterdam manager Maurice Steijn has confirmed he is seeking a new coaching role, with a preference for staying in the Netherlands but openness to opportunities abroad.
The 52-year-old appeared on Het Oranje Café on Thursday, July 2, 2026, where he discussed his current unemployment and future plans.

Steijn on Being Without a Club
"It is also a bit crazy, not having a job," Steijn said.
He noted that the situation is temporary and a result of his own decision not to extend his contract at Sparta.
Steijn left Sparta Rotterdam at the end of June 2026 after turning down a multi-year extension offer in March.
He had returned to the club in November 2024 and led them to a tenth-place finish in the Eredivisie.
"I hope I won't be without a job for too long, but in itself, it's fine for now," he added.
Geographical Preferences
With all 18 Eredivisie managerial positions filled for the upcoming season, Steijn acknowledged the limited domestic options.

"Preferably I just stay in the Netherlands, although I do not rule out abroad," he said.
He specified that any international move would be limited to Europe or the Middle East.
"I will limit myself to Europe, maybe the Middle East, but no further than that," Steijn explained, citing family commitments and time zone concerns.
Steijn previously managed Al-Wahda in the United Arab Emirates, giving him experience in the region.
Open to Waiting
Steijn said he does not have a specific club in mind and is willing to wait for the right opportunity.
"There is not specifically one club where I would like to go," he stated.
