FIFA will set up perimeter roadblocks around the England national team hotel in Mexico City ahead of their World Cup round-of-16 match against Mexico on Sunday, July 5, 2026, according to The Athletic.
The enhanced security measures aim to prevent fan disruptions following an incident where Mexican fans disturbed Ecuador's squad by setting off fireworks and revving engines outside their hotel during the round of 32.

Organizers are adjusting their strategy based on these disruptions, modifying rules to protect competing players as the knockout stages progress in the co-host nation.
Tuchel Adjusts Travel Schedule for Altitude
England manager Thomas Tuchel altered the team's typical tournament travel schedule to cope with the 2,240-meter altitude of the Estadio Azteca.
The team will arrive two days before kickoff instead of the mandatory one day.
"We will go one night earlier. It makes sense.
The ball will fly differently. It will fly maybe five yards more.

It's just difficult. We just need the experience," Tuchel said.
The England manager noted that long-term adaptation was impractical but late travel was restricted by tournament guidelines.
"The recommendation is you either go ten days before — which is too long for us — or last minute, which is not allowed.
We have spoken to teams who do it and they say they travel very, very late on match day if they can't, have time to adapt (and) find a mixture in between.
