This deployment marks the first time the blimp has operated in the metropolitan region in several years.
It will provide high-definition camera angles for broadcast partners and serve as a promotional presence.
The historic appearance is the blimp's fourth flight over an Operation Sail event, having previously participated in 1964, 1976, and 1986.
For the first time in 50 years, the airship will base its ground operations in Brooklyn to cover the gathering of tall ships in New York Harbor.
Coverage begins at 7 a. m.
EST on NBC's TODAY Show.
"For more than half the history of the United States, Goodyear science has contributed not only to the success of the American automotive industry but also to the protection of the country through military service, including blimps that helped ensure the safety of the Navy," said Julianne Roberts, Senior Director, Marketing.
Following its New York City appearance, the blimp is scheduled to travel to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, for the annual EAA AirVenture fly-in convention at Wittman Regional Airport from July 20-26.
