South East Water enacted its restriction for 850,000 consumers in Kent on Friday, July 3, 2026.
Southern Water announced its ban for over one million customers in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, effective July 10.
The measures follow record-breaking June heat and declining river levels. Violators face fines of up to £1,000.
Mixed Reactions from Residents
Local responses to the enforcement vary significantly. Some community members expressed reluctance to monitor or report neighbors who do not comply.
"I would not stop," said Jade Knight, a Maidstone resident. Knight noted the necessity of conserving resources but questioned the method chosen by the water company.
"I could see why there is a hosepipe ban, but this isn't the way to deal with less water," Knight added.
Other residents highlighted specific exemptions built into the temporary restrictions, particularly for individuals with mobility challenges.
"The ban makes no difference to us as we've got blue badges," said Julie Hollinson, a Maidstone resident.

Her neighbor explained how the policy accommodates registered disabled individuals.
"If you are registered disabled, you can still use a hosepipe as you can't carry a bucket to water your plants," added Dee Tolhurst.
