Alexandra Eala secured a historic milestone for Philippine tennis on Thursday by becoming the first player from her country to advance to the third round of a Grand Slam tournament at Wimbledon.

The 21-year-old Filipino athlete rallied from behind to defeat Australia's Maya Joint 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 on No. 3 Court, setting up a highly anticipated encounter against defending champion and world No. 3 Iga Swiatek.

Emotional Victory

Eala expressed the profound significance of representing her nation on the prestigious grass courts of London following her landmark second-round victory.

"For me to be able to represent the Philippines in Wimbledon, I guess, and in the biggest stages in the world, it means so much to me," said Eala.

The 29th seed noted that her breakthrough achievements reflect the intense preparation she and her support system invested ahead of the tournament.

"I have been working extremely hard. My team has been working extremely hard.

I really feel that it's paying off. This win means a lot," said Eala.

Eala adjusted her visor during the match, which featured an embroidered Tagalog phrase celebrating growth and unstoppable progress.

"Kapag lumago, hindi na hihinto," posted Eala.

The Quezon City native elaborated on the emotional weight of the phrase and how it connects to her personal identity on the global sports stage.

"That loosely translates to, 'Once it grows, it cannot be stopped,' or 'it's unstoppable'," said Eala.

The young athlete emphasized that remaining grounded in her heritage remains essential to her long-term aspirations.
