Motivation Behind the Protest
In a smuggled prison letter sent last week, Lindsay Foreman outlined their motivations: "We are continuing because we must expose the corruption and cruelty in this country."
She expressed hope that their suffering could contribute to a long-term solution for injustice faced by both Iranians and foreigners.
"We want to continue our mission to do good in the world, to fight for what is important in life – freedom, family and love," she wrote.
Bennett acknowledged the couple's autonomy but emphasized the family's focus on preventing a fatal outcome.
"Essentially, we want to make sure that they do come home and the worst doesn't happen," he said.
He also criticized British authorities for not forcefully advocating for his parents or recognizing the political nature of the detention.
"I think they should be embarrassed that they are not doing more," Bennett said.
The diplomatic gridlock persists despite reports that Iran requested a prisoner swap involving Richard Jan, an Iranian national jailed in the UK for 23 years.
