Fatalities in Other States

Additional heat fatalities occurred in the Midwest and South. In Cook County, Illinois, a death was linked to cardiovascular disease exacerbated by heat stress.

In Kendall County, a 47-year-old woman was killed by a falling tree during a storm.

In Hinds County, Mississippi, authorities recorded two heat-related deaths, including 74-year-old Mitchell Ray Cooley, who was found exposed behind a gas station after being reported missing.

"Mr. Cooley suffered from a medical condition that impaired his judgment," the coroner's office said.

"Based on the investigative findings, scene examination, and subsequent evaluation, the cause of death has been determined to be weather-related heat exposure.

At this time, there is no indication of foul play."
