Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on NATO to make strong decisions during the upcoming summit in Ankara, following a devastating Russian overnight strike on Kyiv that killed 11 people on Monday, July 6, 2026.

The massive bombardment injured approximately 60 others. Russian forces launched 68 missiles and more than 350 drones directly targeting the Ukrainian capital.

Zelenskyy Highlights Defense Shortfalls

President Zelenskyy emphasized the critical defense deficits Ukraine currently faces.

He noted that the country continues to struggle due to a shortage of necessary military equipment from its international partners.

“The insufficient supply of interceptor missiles,” Zelenskyy said.

The Ukrainian leader stressed that global allies possess the necessary resources to halt the ongoing strikes.

He argued that stockpiled defense equipment could be used to protect civilians from further aerial bombardments.

“As long as Patriot missiles remain in our allies’ stockpiles, Russia is only encouraged to keep vanquishing residential buildings.

The United States and Europe have enough strength to stop this terror,” Zelenskyy stated.

The aerial assault occurred just days after another fatal strike hit Kyiv.

The incident comes immediately ahead of the NATO summit, where international leaders are scheduled to discuss the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Moscow offered a different narrative regarding the targets of the overnight operation.

Russian authorities claimed the massive strike was aimed exclusively at degrading military and energy infrastructure, despite visible evidence of severe damage to civilian residential apartment blocks.
