Rogers Communications announced on Monday, July 6, 2026, that it has agreed to acquire full ownership of Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) by purchasing the remaining stake from Kilmer Sports Inc.
The telecommunications giant will buy out the 25 percent interest held by Larry Tanenbaum's holding company for $4.35 billion CAD.

This transaction values MLSE at $17.4 billion CAD.
MLSE owns major sports franchises including the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs, the NBA's Toronto Raptors, the CFL's Toronto Argonauts, and MLS club Toronto FC.
The company also owns Scotiabank Arena.
Rogers previously expanded its control in July 2025 by purchasing Bell Canada's 37.5 percent stake for $4.7 billion CAD, bringing its ownership to 75 percent.
That deal included an option to buy the remaining portion from Kilmer Sports Inc.
“This is a defining moment for Rogers.
Our full ownership of MLSE brings together Canada’s premier communications company with Canada’s premier sports and entertainment organization,” said Tony Staffieri, Rogers president and CEO.

Staffieri noted that the acquisition allows the firm to enhance investments in competitive sports teams while generating long-term shareholder value and distinctive fan experiences.
“It gives us even more opportunity to invest in championship-calibre teams, create unique experiences for customers and fans, and unlock long-term value for shareholders,” Staffieri said.
Rogers first entered the MLSE ownership structure in 2012 alongside Bell Canada through a joint venture that acquired a 75 percent stake from the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan.
Tanenbaum had maintained his minority holding since his initial investment in 1996.
According to the official announcement, Rogers intends to finance the transaction using its committed liquidity.
The company also plans to sell a minority stake in its consolidated sports, media and entertainment assets over the next year.
The acquisition is expected to conclude in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to standard league approvals including formal clearance from the NHL.
