Utah county prosecutors began presenting their murder case against 23-year-old Tyler Robinson on Monday, July 6, 2026, during a multi-day preliminary hearing at the Fourth Judicial District Courthouse in Provo.
Robinson faces 10 criminal charges, including a capital offense of aggravated murder, for the September 10, 2025, assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk on the Utah Valley University campus.

State District Judge Tony Graf will determine if prosecutors have established sufficient probable cause to advance the high-profile case to a full criminal trial.
The Kirk family issued a joint statement ahead of the legal proceedings, marking the first time they have sat in the same courtroom as the defendant.
"Charlie was a beloved husband, son, brother, friend, and father.
Every court proceeding serves as a painful reminder of his death and the loss that has irrevocably impacted our lives and the lives of his children," the family said.
During the opening session, former Utah Valley University police officer Chris Bagley testified about hearing a single gunshot and observing a disturbance on the gravel roof of the Losee Center building resembling a sniper pad.

The victim's widow, Erika Kirk, who took over as the chief executive of Turning Point USA following her husband's death, previously expressed forgiveness toward the suspect during a September 2025 memorial service.
"My husband, Charlie, he wanted to save young men, just like the one who took his life.
