Hanner, 59, experienced a sudden waterfall of symptoms after contracting Covid in 2021, which doctors struggled to accurately diagnose despite her excellent physical condition.

The Role and Risks of Hormone Replacement Therapy

Medical experts note that HRT is the most effective treatment for counteracting declining estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone levels, while potentially reducing risks for dementia, heart disease, and osteoporosis.

Dr. Sara Kennedy, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette, noted that a 2002 report by the Women's Health Initiative caused HRT use to nosedive from nearly 30% to less than 5% by 2020 due to cancer fears.

Despite subsequent studies revealing flaws in the 2002 research, misinformation persists, leaving many physicians hesitant to prescribe hormone therapy and patients fearful of requesting it.

Hanner eventually found a nurse practitioner who recommended HRT after discussing the updated clinical evidence regarding risks and benefits.
