Speculation in the Formula 1 paddock has intensified following reports that Oscar Piastri is seeking an exit from McLaren by the end of 2026, potentially opening a vacancy for Max Verstappen.

According to Brazilian motorsport website Gran Prêmio, the Australian driver is unhappy with his position at the team.

His management, led by former Red Bull driver Mark Webber, has reportedly been exploring alternative options since late 2025 to avoid Piastri playing a secondary role to teammate Lando Norris.

McLaren CEO Faces Questions Over Verstappen Meeting

McLaren CEO Zak Brown faced heavy questioning during an FIA press conference regarding a recent meeting with Verstappen's manager, Raymond Vermeulen.

Brown initially downplayed the speculation, calling it rumors.

When pressed about whether the meeting occurred, Brown deflected by mentioning dinner with Nigel Mansell.

He reaffirmed his commitment to his current driver lineup while acknowledging the public interest in Verstappen.

“I am very happy with my two drivers, Lando and Oscar,” Brown said.

He added that every time Verstappen's name is mentioned, everyone gets excited, but he remains satisfied with his drivers.

Asked if a driver change was ruled out in the short term, Brown confirmed: “Correct.”

Journalists probed what McLaren could offer to lure Verstappen from Red Bull.

Brown praised the entire grid before focusing on his team, saying McLaren has a unique environment and great racing team.

When asked a third time about the meeting's outcome, Brown clarified: “It led nowhere. I have my two drivers.

So I have nothing to report.”

The persistent questioning prompted Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur to intervene: “Stop with the Verstappen questions. We can speak about Max for years to come.”
