The defunding policy additionally impacted two other non-profit family planning organizations that received over $800,000 annually in Medicaid reimbursements.

Maine Family Planning closed three primary care clinics that served roughly 1,000 patients across a largely rural state due to the restriction.

Evelyn Kieltyka, a senior vice-president of program services, stated on Monday that former patients faced average wait times of four to six months to see new providers.

Despite the clinic closures, the total number of abortions provided by the Maine group remained steady, supported by state-funded Medicaid coverage.

Conversely, patients at Health Imperatives in Massachusetts experienced no service disruptions because the state government funded the Medicaid reimbursements that the federal government halted.

Planned Parenthood noted that 14 states stepped in with similar funding solutions, and Health Imperatives also received a financial grant from Melinda Gates's foundation.

Despite the resumed billing, Maine Family Planning does not intend to reopen its primary care practices due to the difficulty of rebuilding lost staff positions.

Michelle Quesada, vice-president of communications, brand and marketing for the Planned Parenthood affiliate in Florida, stated that a closed clinic in Lakeland will remain shut.

“There’s no telling with this uncertainty,” she said. “It’s like a yo-yo effect.”

Political opposition remains active, with anti-abortion groups urging Congress to implement another defunding policy against these healthcare networks.

“They’ve defunded Big Abortion before,” Kelsey Pritchard, a spokesperson for Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, said Monday.

“And they should do everything in their power to do it again.”

Planned Parenthood maintains that the majority of general election voters oppose defunding, while Pritchard stated that the Republican political base strongly supports it.
