Policy Change on Political Impartiality
According to an official statement from the Prime Minister's Office, the federal government is removing the requirement for political impartiality in Senate appointments.

Carney stated that the Senate has been an independent pillar of Parliament since Confederation.

Following these appointments, six Senate vacancies remain, with five additional seats expected to become vacant by year-end.
