Mexican forward Stephano Carrillo has started pre-season training with the Feyenoord Under 21 squad after being omitted from the first-team selection.

The 20-year-old striker reported to the Under 21 group on Monday, signaling he is not currently in head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst's immediate plans, according to VoetbalPrimeur.

Carrillo joined Feyenoord from Mexican club Santos Laguna for approximately €2.5 million in early 2025.

During a loan spell at FC Dordrecht last season, he struggled to meet expectations, scoring only three goals in 33 appearances.

Former FC Dordrecht manager Dirk Kuyt offered a candid assessment of the young attacker's performance.

"I had expected more from Carrillo at this point," Kuyt said.

However, Kuyt cautioned against writing off the player entirely, citing his age and the significant adjustment of moving from South America.

"We are talking about a 20-year-old boy who comes from South America and is expected to do the same as his predecessor, Gimenez," Kuyt added.
