"Maybe they're using some new AI to flag questionable exam results and maybe the AI is not working as intended," he said.

"It's just causing an inconvenience for these 11,000 people."

Other affected motorists reported difficulties securing testing slots at local offices, forcing them to travel to alternative regional locations.

Sam Burgin, a San Francisco resident who had to reschedule his exam in San Mateo, said, "I had to spend $100 on an Uber just to do a stupid test."

Burgin expressed annoyance regarding the state response, noting he had previously relocated to California from Minnesota. "I just kind of rolled my eyes," Burgin said.

"It's like, oh, just like another parking ticket, another fee, another state government mess-up; it's all of the time here."

The DMV rules mandate that walk-ins are forbidden for the retest.

Drivers must bring the official notification letter alongside their current temporary license, instruction permit, or card to their scheduled appointment.
