The European Union is holding discussions with the governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan to determine the best ways to support regional transport and connectivity routes in the South Caucasus, according to an announcement made in Yerevan.

Magdalena Grono, the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, revealed the ongoing diplomatic engagement during a briefing with reporters.

She described the progress toward building sustainable peace in the region as remarkably advanced.

"As the European Union, we seek to be a strong partner for the Republic of Armenia, but also for Azerbaijan, so that this peace becomes a lasting reality that benefits all people," said Grono.

The European bloc supports the peace process through both political initiatives and practical field engagements.

The union is actively exploring further support for ongoing areas of discussion that could benefit local communities on both sides, including humanitarian demining efforts.

Conflict-affected communities are directly impacted by landmines, and clearing these areas is expected to facilitate broader regional connectivity and the creation of new transport links.

On July 8, 2026, an EU-funded remote-controlled demining machine was delivered to Armenia as part of this broader peacebuilding assistance.

Focus on the Middle Corridor

"We are discussing with the Armenian authorities, but also with our Azerbaijani partners, how we can best support the development of these routes so that all countries are involved and all communities along them benefit.

We also want to make a meaningful contribution to what is a priority for the European Union - the Middle Corridor, which connects Asia with Europe through the South Caucasus," said Grono.
