Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced an agreement for a European-backed missile defense system named Freyja, developed as an alternative to the US Patriot system.
This initiative comes amid ongoing Russian military aggressions.

Zelenskyy emphasized the necessity of American interceptors for the upcoming winter, stating, "One of the main ways to strengthen our collective position should be a winter package of air defence missiles."
He outlined a goal of acquiring 100 Patriot missiles monthly, totaling 300 missiles for winter.
During talks with leaders from nine countries, including the UK, Germany, and France, Zelenskyy reaffirmed that the Freyja project would leverage Ukraine's combat experience over the past four years.
The UK is set to participate in the EU's €90bn support loan to Ukraine, which will facilitate further military assistance.
French President Emmanuel Macron detailed plans for Ukraine to receive 16 Rafale fighter jets, with the first deliveries expected between 2028-2029.

Macron also confirmed that Ukraine would acquire new-generation SAMP/T missile defense units to enhance its capabilities.
In a recent escalation, Russian forces targeted Kyiv with missile and drone strikes, causing significant damage and injuries.
The head of Kyiv's military administration reported fires in two storage areas, while further drone attacks in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia injured 11 individuals.
In response to the rising cyber threats, the EU and the UK imposed coordinated sanctions against Russia, targeting individuals and entities linked to cyber-attacks across Europe.
This includes sanctions against nine individuals and four entities, with the UK adding 24 names to its blacklist.
