The recent shootings of Joan Sebastian Guerrero in Maine and Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Texas have led federal immigration officials to suspend vehicle stops.
The decision comes amid growing calls for accountability regarding immigration enforcement-related deaths.

Guerrero, 26, was shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer on Monday morning.
This incident followed Salgado's shooting in Houston, where he was also killed by an ICE officer while commuting to work.
Communities, lawmakers, and civil liberties groups have expressed outrage over both incidents, demanding independent investigations. Notably, in both cases, the officers involved were not wearing body cameras.
Temporary Suspension and Training
A homeland security source revealed that officials nationwide received instructions to halt vehicle stops, although some may still occur in cases involving serious criminal activity.
This directive was confirmed by various news outlets.
According to a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), "We are always evaluating our procedures to keep our officers safe and criminals off our streets.

We will not disclose or discuss law enforcement tactics." As reported by The Guardian, the email detailing the vehicle stop suspension lacked comprehensive explanations.
On Tuesday, it was reported that the suspension would be temporary until ICE officers receive new training regarding vehicle stops.
Following Salgado's shooting, ICE stated it had already implemented additional training for new officers, including procedures for high-risk vehicle stops.
Since January 2025, federal immigration officials have been involved in the fatal shootings of 11 individuals, with five killed by ICE officers, including Guerrero and Salgado.
The DHS has claimed that in many incidents, individuals allegedly used their vehicles as weapons against law enforcement, though these claims have been disputed by video evidence.
