Boston has also experienced an above-average number of days exceeding 90F (32.3C), according to NPR station WBUR-FM.
The soaring temperatures are attributed to a "heat dome," a meteorological phenomenon that traps heat over a region, leading to prolonged hot and dry conditions.
Cara Schulte, a researcher at Climate Rights International, noted, "Heat creates the perfect conditions for fire. Hot and dry weather dries out vegetation and makes it more flammable."

Health Risks and Precautions
Officials are advising the public to remain vigilant for signs of heat-related illnesses, which can occur when extreme heat hampers the body's cooling mechanisms.
Symptoms of heat exhaustion include profuse sweating and fatigue, while heatstroke, a medical emergency, can manifest as slurred speech and a rapid pulse.
Schulte emphasized that the combination of high daytime temperatures and a lack of nighttime cooling can significantly increase the risk for vulnerable populations, particularly the elderly.
