A high-quality film capture of Anaïs Mitchell's Tony Award-winning Broadway musical "Hadestown" has debuted in movie theaters for an exclusive five-night theatrical engagement.
Directed by Brett Sullivan, the proshot was filmed over three performances in 2025 at London's Lyric Theatre in the West End.

The production reunites five original Broadway principal cast members to recreate their acclaimed roles on screen.
The story adapts ancient Greek mythology through a New Orleans-style jazz and folk score, following the tragic romance of Orpheus and Eurydice alongside the complex relationship of Hades and Persephone.
The stage show originally opened on Broadway in 2019 and earned eight Tony Awards from 14 nominations, including Best Musical, Best Direction, and Best Original Score, before opening in the West End in 2024.
Reeve Carney stars as Orpheus, while Eva Noblezada portrays Eurydice. Patrick Page reprises his role as Hades alongside Amber Gray as Persephone.
Prior to filming, Page suffered an Achilles tendon injury, leading the production to integrate a protective boot and cane into his pinstripe costume as part of the visual storytelling.

The stage production also features original cast member André De Shields, who reprises his Tony Award-winning role as the narrator, Hermes.
De Shields leads the ensemble, which includes the Fates, played by Bella Brown, Madeline Charlemagne, and Allie Daniel, as well as a workers chorus and an onstage orchestra.
The cinematic presentation captures multi-angle views and close-up performances on Rachel Hauck's multi-level set, incorporating choreography by David Neumann and lighting design by Bradley King.
The limited release aims to provide broader public access to the stage production outside traditional theatrical venues.

"Hadestown" is currently screening in select theaters across the country, including locations in Boston such as AMC Boston Common and Alamo Drafthouse Seaport, with a running time of 141 minutes.
