After researching glioblastoma multiforme online, Davies understood the severity.
Despite describing eight years of caregiving as hard work, he said he would have continued for decades without complaint.
Davies praised Marie Curie nurses who provided end-of-life care in their home during Smith's final weeks, comparing their presence to having a saint visit the house.
"I had no experience with a Marie Curie Nurse until these final weeks when Andrew was ill – I finally discovered why we give money for those daffodils for all those years," Davies said.
"And my goodness me, it's like a saint visiting the house."
Smith passed away at home holding Davies' hand, alongside Davies' sister, fulfilling his wish to remain at home.

"I'm really glad he was at home," Davies said.
