Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is preparing to return to Old Trafford after Barcelona allowed a June 15 deadline to sign him permanently for €30 million to expire without action.

The England international moved to Spain on loan after falling out of favor under former manager Ruben Amorim, who relegated him to the training squad and reallocated his jersey number.

Rashford helped Barcelona secure the La Liga title last month, but a permanent stay looks unlikely after the Spanish club signed Anthony Gordon and Rashford cleared Barcelona references from his social media profiles.

Carrick Open to Reintegration

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has reportedly maintained communication with the 28-year-old winger and checked with first-team leaders regarding a squad reintegration.

Rashford remains under a contract valued at £325,000 per week that runs through June 2028, making financial terms difficult for many prospective buyers while United refuses to negotiate another loan deal.

Former Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt shared insights on the situation, noting that Carrick's management style remains supportive of returning players during pre-season preparations.

"He might be forced back to United, at least for the pre-season. Knowing Michael Carrick, he will be receptive to any player coming into training and pre-season.

He won't just f*** people off, he's not that kind of person," Butt said.

Butt recounted his personal history of overcoming fan hostility when returning to Newcastle United from a loan spell at Birmingham in 2005 to demonstrate how player dedication can change club dynamics.

"I remember when I went back to Newcastle from Birmingham, I didn't think I'd ever stay there. I got booed coming onto the pitch against Villarreal.

I came on, scored two headers and I still got booed coming off the pitch," Butt said.

"I was thinking there's no way I'm going to end up staying, they're not going to accept me.

But I trained, worked hard and played, ended up being captain of the club and staying another four years," he added.

Butt concluded that while remaining in Spain would have been preferable, the absence of alternative transfer agreements necessitates a structured integration back into the Premier League squad.

"It would obviously be better for him to stay at Barcelona than go back to Man United.

The club might have made their mind up but, again, if he comes back to pre-season contracted as a Man United player, Michael will give him respect and consideration," Butt said.

As reported by Yahoo Sports, Rashford is currently focused on the World Cup tournament with England ahead of their opening match against Croatia on Wednesday.
