“As fans and as teammates, we all love the performance, but the way he goes about his business, it’s very rewarding as someone who wants to look out for him and protect him, he doesn’t need a ton of that,” said Hinch.
“He really just needs an opportunity to play and he’s ready to play every day.”
Hinch further detailed that the infielder possesses excellent acceleration and closing ability on the field, which the coaching staff is pairing with consistent pre-pitch positioning.
“He has a very stable set of skills to get to a lot of balls,” said Hinch. “His acceleration after he gets started is excellent.
So you just combine that with a little bit of detail on the start and that will start to extend his range.
So I think all of it together is really the key.
He is naturally good at closing on the ball, and now we’ve got a little more consistency in his pre-pitch (approach).”
