So it’s good that’s all in the rearview now, and I can just put most of my focus on going out and helping the team win.”
McGonigle became the first Tiger in franchise history to record at least 45 hits and 24 walks within his first 40 career games, placing his name alongside historical players.
“It’s always cool to see your name with obviously Hall of Famers,” said McGonigle.
“But I think it all comes back to the same thing, just going out and helping the team win.
And then I think if you keep that mindset, your name is going to be in more categories like that.
So I think the biggest thing is just keeping the same mindset, same approach to the game, and good things will happen.”
The rookie also expressed that his physical readiness stems directly from his winter training program, ensuring he can perform wherever Hinch places him.
“I think it all comes from the training I put in this offseason, just making sure I’m prepared at whatever position AJ is going to put me in,” said McGonigle.
“I think that was the biggest thing for me, just the way I went after it this offseason helped me prepare for being at third base one day, shortstop the next day.
I don’t think it really matters what position you’re at out there, just as long as you’re given 100 percent effort.”
