Story to Miss Two Months After Surgery
Before the game, the Red Sox announced that shortstop Trevor Story will undergo surgery for a sports hernia injury.
He is expected to be sidelined for approximately two months.
In his absence, the team plans to use Marcelo Mayer as the primary shortstop. Interim manager Chad Tracy explained the defensive adjustments.
“Obviously, we have a bunch of guys who can play (shortstop),” Tracy said. “But we proactively started getting Marcelo some work there this past week.

Tentatively, planning on getting him out there Sunday.”
Tracy added that coaches want to do more work with Mayer, but fans will likely see him at shortstop more often.
“Does that mean he’ll play there every single day? Maybe not.
But we definitely want to explore that.”
Tracy also provided an update on outfielder Roman Anthony, who met with team specialists.
“Nothing new with Roman other than to say he did re-see our specialist and also a second opinion,” Tracy said.
“The healing is OK.
It’s just gonna be a matter of that motion swinging when he feels like he can do it.”
