Diamondbacks Roster Moves and Troy's Debut
Before the game, the Diamondbacks placed left fielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. on the 10-day injured list with a minor left hamstring strain and selected the contract of outfield prospect Tommy Troy from Triple-A Reno.
Manager Torey Lovullo explained the decision. "We wanted to make sure we give him enough time," he said.
"Given what he's walked through and put his body through to get back to this point, why fast-forward that?
Let's give him 10 days and then read and react once we get to that 11th day."
Troy, the 12th overall pick in the 2023 draft out of Stanford, learned about his promotion late Friday night.
He was initially called to a meeting under the pretense of reviewing defensive footage. "I'm like, 'I don't know what that's about,'" Troy said.
"It was an incredible moment. I had to soak it in.
It felt really good. Excited to be here."
Diamondbacks rookie outfielder Ryan Waldschmidt praised Marte's hitting streak. "Crazy what he's doing right now," Waldschmidt said.
He emphasized his role in getting on base to maximize Marte's impact.
"That's especially important for me to get on base for the hot streak that he's going on," Waldschmidt said.
