The network built an elite studio team around Bird to elevate production value.
The lineup includes Hall of Famer Cheryl Miller as studio analyst, Maria Taylor and LaChina Robinson as studio hosts, and play-by-play announcers Noah Eagle, Michael Grady, and Zora Stephenson.
Bird's Vision for the Role
Bird discussed her new position with media outlets before the formal announcement. "It's all about bringing my unique perspective," she explained.
The transition brings her extensive strategic knowledge from a 21-year playing career with the Seattle Storm directly into mainstream sports coverage.
"Getting back on NBC is a game-changer for the league's growth, and being part of that transition feels special," Bird said.
NBC Sports producer Betsy Riley expressed strong confidence in Bird's analytical expertise.
"There is no more accomplished player in the history of the WNBA and arguably in all of women's sports than Sue Bird," Riley said.

She added that Bird's tactical understanding will enhance broadcasts through both analysis and storytelling.
"Sue's knowledge of the game is unmatched and will bring fans closer to the sport they love," Riley noted.
Personal Developments
The announcement followed major changes in Bird's personal life. She and former U.
S. soccer star Megan Rapinoe announced their mutual separation on April 17.
"There really is no smooth or easy way to share this news.
After a lot of thought, we've made the decision to separate as a couple," read a joint statement from Bird and Rapinoe.
The former couple also confirmed the conclusion of their joint podcast network, "A Touch More," after producing six final episodes.
