Mitsuoka has refreshed its retro-styled Viewt Story hatchback for the Japanese market, aligning it with the Toyota Yaris it's based on.

The 2026 model gains more standard technology but loses its entry-level engine.

Classic Jaguar Styling Meets Modern Yaris Bones

The Viewt Story retains its distinctive look, inspired by the classic Jaguar MK2 with round headlights, chrome bumpers, and a retro grille.

The design has remained largely unchanged since the model switched from the Nissan Micra to the Toyota Yaris platform in 2023.

For 2026, Mitsuoka has revised the color palette, now offering 15 shades.

Inside, the Yaris-sourced dashboard now features an 8-inch infotainment screen, up from seven inches, and a standard rearview camera.

Interestingly, Mitsuoka skipped the 10.5-inch display available on the updated Japanese-market Yaris.

The coachbuilder adds its own touches, including optional custom leather in eight colors and a “special flower set” mounted beside the center console.

Hybrid variants now come with an electric parking brake with auto hold, and all trims include Toyota Safety Sense driver-assist suite as standard.

Powertrain Changes and Pricing

The most significant update is under the hood.

The base 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine (68 hp) has been dropped, mirroring a move across the regular Yaris range.

The new entry-level powertrain is a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter three-cylinder producing 118 hp, paired with a six-speed manual or CVT, available in front- or all-wheel drive.

The other option is a self-charging hybrid with a 1.5-liter engine and one or two electric motors (E-Four), delivering a combined 114 hp.

The revised lineup pushes the starting price to ¥3,691,600 ($23,200) for the front-wheel-drive gasoline model with a manual transmission.

The top-spec Viewt Story Hybrid LX with E-Four AWD reaches ¥4,803,700 ($30,100).

For comparison, a standard Toyota Yaris in Japan ranges from ¥1,697,300 to ¥2,994,200 ($10,700 to $18,800).
