The Houston Rockets may have exited the playoffs early, but analysis suggests they could be a serious championship threat to the New York Knicks if both teams meet in the NBA Finals with full rosters.

According to Sports, the Rockets' defensive versatility and interior dominance give them a clear edge over the Knicks.

Defensive Impact on Jalen Brunson

Houston's length and athleticism were on full display during the regular season. Amen Thompson and Tari Eason delivered standout defensive performances against Knicks star Jalen Brunson.

Brunson averaged 26.9 points and 6.8 assists per game this season. However, the Rockets held him below those numbers in both head-to-head meetings.

In February, Brunson had 20 points and 6 assists. In March, he was limited to 12 points and 8 assists, with 3 turnovers in each game.

Kevin Durant's Return Key

A sprained ankle sidelined Kevin Durant on April 21, but he would be fully recovered by the time of a potential Finals series.

His presence is essential given Houston's current lack of roster depth.

Durant performed well against the Knicks during the regular season, which ended in a 1-1 split.

He recorded 30 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists in a narrow 106-108 loss on February 21, then posted 27 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists in a 111-94 home win on March 31.

Rebounding Advantage

Houston finished the regular season as the NBA's top rebounding team, averaging 48.1 rebounds per game compared to New York's 45.1.

In their two meetings, the Rockets grabbed 82 total rebounds to the Knicks' 70.

This interior dominance, combined with a healthy Durant and elite defense, gives Houston a significant edge over New York in a potential championship series.
