New York used an opener strategy with right-hander Huascar Brazoban before turning to left-handed bulk reliever Sean Manaea, who limited San Diego's offense despite two home runs by Padres catcher Freddy Fermin.
Padres stars Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado continued their season-long offensive struggles.
