Guzman made his season debut on Monday night with a start at third base, filling another vacancy created by the recent injuries.

He did not make the Opening Day roster and spent the start of the season with Triple-A Salt Lake, where he batted .

273 with six home runs, 29 RBIs, and three stolen bases across 52 games.

The veteran previously played for the Baltimore Orioles, Houston Astros, and Chicago Cubs, batting . 263 with 129 home runs over seven major league seasons.

He missed the 2020 season to undergo surgery and chemotherapy for Stage 3 colon cancer before returning to win the American League Comeback Player of the Year Award in 2021.

The promotion reunites Mancini with Angels hitting coach Brady Anderson, who previously altered Mancini's batting stance in the Baltimore minor league system in 2015.

Mancini credits Anderson with rejuvenating his career after he subsequently hit 21 home runs across High-A and Double-A that same year.

The Angels also welcomed back first baseman Nolan Schanuel from the injured list over the weekend following a battle with left ankle inflammation.
