James Campbell, a Newcastle resident who also lives with the condition, attended the stadium departure to witness the team leave.
"I wanted to support the racers heading off... I think it's tremendous of him to put himself through this.

The physical and logistical demands of the multi-day route require collaborative support across the entire cycling entourage.
"It feels really odd now not to be running. I sort of miss it," said Begy, according to LincsOnline.
The 21-year-old university student completed five marathons in five days followed by a final half-marathon ending at Bath Rugby Club on Saturday.
Inspired by Moody's diagnosis, Begy accumulated nearly £12,000 for the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation during his trek from Welford Road.
"It was quite a big jump to go from nothing to the extreme," said Begy, according to LincsOnline.

Subsequent stages introduced steep inclines and isolated forest tracks before the final descent into Bath.
"On day four, I had a lot of mental toil about halfway through because there was a long mundane track through a forest," said Begy, according to LincsOnline.
