The victory significantly strengthens Egypt's chances of advancing to the knockout stage after they previously drew 1-1 with Belgium in their tournament opener.

Egypt entered the match as heavy favorites, with Salah and Omar Marmoush leading the attack before a passionate crowd at BC Place.
However, defensive lapses cost them early when New Zealand defender Finn Surman headed home a corner kick from Tim Payne in the 15th minute.

Trezeguet sealed the victory by converting a third goal with an impressive header from Salah's outswinging corner delivery.
