"I am a proud registered Republican," he said.

He expanded on his voting record during a discussion regarding national direction.

"I certainly lean to the right.

I voted for Donald Trump multiple times, proudly, and I am happy in terms of the direction of the country (and) the things he is doing.

It is not without obvious pushback and angst and I can understand and respect that," he said.

Speaking to Politico, Lalas highlighted the growing ideological variation within the sport's domestic landscape.

"I think as the soccer pyramid grows out, there is a whole lot more diversity when it comes to political thought out there," he said.

He stated that receiving support from right-leaning fans has been a positive experience.

"It's been fun and amazing to me to see the support that I have had. It shouldn't be a stigma for anyone out there," he said.

On-Air Debates with Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Lalas previously initiated soccer debates regarding player status, notably comparing Erling Haaland to his studio partner.

"If this man has a big World Cup, boom, right to the top," said Lalas.

He asserted that Haaland could eclipse the historical status of his colleague.

"Even over this guy.

I love you Z, but I will take Haaland over you in terms of legendary status," he said.

The analytical style of Lalas has frequently led to visible pushback from Swedish soccer icon Zlatan Ibrahimovic during live tournament coverage.
