The WNBA suspended Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas for one game on Thursday, June 25, 2026, following a review of an incident during Wednesday's game against the Indiana Fever.

Thomas was also assessed a Flagrant Foul 2 penalty for striking Fever guard Caitlin Clark in the throat area during a loose-ball scramble in the second quarter.

The play occurred with 6:52 remaining in the second quarter at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Game referees did not call a foul at the time, but the WNBA League Office later classified the contact as a reckless, non-basketball act.

As a result, Thomas will miss the Mercury's road game against the Toronto Tempos on Saturday, June 27, 2026.

Reactions from Fever Coach and President

Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White expressed frustration over the missed call during the game. "The fact that it was a no-call … You got to call it," she said.

White called the officiating oversight "absolutely unacceptable."

Fever President Kelly Krauskopf released a statement emphasizing player safety. "Player safety should be paramount in our league," she said.

Krauskopf added, "We appreciate the WNBA's review of last night's incident and the action taken.

Right now our focus is on Caitlin and our entire team as we prepare for Saturday."

Clark recorded 19 points and eight assists in 20 minutes of play before exiting the game in the third quarter.
