The New York Mets held shortstop Francisco Lindor out of the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Philadelphia Phillies on June 28, 2026.

The decision was made to manage his workload as he returns from a left calf strain that sidelined him for two months.

Interim manager Andy Green adjusted the infield, moving Bo Bichette to shortstop and starting Mark Vientos at third base.

Green stressed the importance of balancing immediate availability with long-term health.

"It's always going to be dictated by how he feels on a given day and how he is responding," Green said.

"There is nothing in him that doesn't want to be on the field every single day, so the prudent path for him is to assess each day, put a plan together."

Lindor played a key role in Saturday's 6-2 victory, hitting a two-run triple in the sixth inning to tie the game.

He credited the training staff for preparing him to perform at a high level.

"The triple felt good. The trainer did a good job in prepping me and getting ready for this," Lindor said.

Green Earns First Win as Interim Manager

Saturday's win marked Andy Green's first victory as interim manager after replacing Carlos Mendoza. Green praised the team's collective effort.

"Wins are fun, but it's not about me. It's about the team, and winning as a group is fun," Green said.

"The guys did a lot of good things today. It was a cool team win."

The Mets entered the game with a 35-48 record, last in the NL East.

Owner Steve Cohen released a statement acknowledging the disappointing season and reaffirming the commitment to building a championship-caliber team.
