The United Kingdom has announced a major restructuring of its Defense Investment Plan, committing over £500 million to transform its elite Commando Force with advanced technology.
Defense Secretary Dan Jarvis redirected the plan over the past two weeks to prioritize immediate front-line capabilities ahead of the upcoming NATO Summit.

The updated funding package includes nearly £100 million specifically for transformative technologies such as uncrewed vessels, next-generation communications, networked targeting, and lethal strike drones.
These investments aim to bolster British industry and ensure the Commando Force remains a cutting-edge rapid-reaction unit.
New High-Speed Boats and Amphibious Ships
The strategic shift also funds new high-speed Joint Commando Craft designed for maritime security operations.
Additionally, larger amphibious ships will be developed as part of a combined transport fleet with the Netherlands.

Officials confirmed that the modernized force will focus its operations on the High North region to strengthen NATO deterrence and build on existing defense collaborations with Norway.
“Our elite Commando Force is respected around the world, conducting operations that help to keep the nation and our allies safe,” said Dan Jarvis.
“We’re investing in new lethal strike drones, high-speed boats and amphibious transport ships to give our Commandos the equipment they need to stay ahead of adversaries and defend us.”

Jarvis emphasized that the Defense Investment Plan will prioritize getting the latest kit into the hands of frontline forces so they can continue their vital work in an increasingly dangerous world.
