British actress Dame Penelope Keith, best known for her iconic roles in the sitcoms "The Good Life" and "To The Manor Born," has died at the age of 86.
She passed away peacefully at her home in Surrey on Monday, June 29, 2026, after living with cancer.

Her family released a statement confirming her death.
"We are deeply saddened to announce that Dame Penelope Keith died peacefully whilst living with cancer at her home in Surrey where she had lived for more than 50 years," the statement read.
The family expressed gratitude to her medical team and asked for privacy during their time of mourning.
"The family is grateful for the care and support she received throughout her treatments, and ask that their privacy be respected at this time," they added.
A Career Spanning Stage and Screen
Born Penelope Anne Constance Hatfield on April 2, 1940, in Sutton, Surrey, Keith began her career in regional repertory theater.
She joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1963, performing in major productions such as "The Wars of the Roses" in London and Stratford.

Keith achieved national fame in 1975 when she played the snobbish neighbor Margo Leadbetter in the BBC comedy "The Good Life."
The role earned her a BAFTA award in 1977.
She won a second BAFTA in 1978 for "The Norman Conquests" before starring as Audrey fforbes-Hamilton in "To the Manor Born" in 1979.
