Seattle Mariners first baseman Josh Naylor is facing intense backlash following a series of on-field incidents that have sparked tension within MLB clubhouses.
The latest controversy occurred during a weekend series against the Cleveland Guardians in late June 2026.

Naylor intentionally leaned into a pitch from Shawn Armstrong, prompting a heated verbal exchange with Guardians catcher Austin Hedges.
Field microphones captured Naylor calling Hedges a "f—ing loser." Hedges fired back, reportedly saying, "No one likes you!
Literally nobody likes you."
Media analyst Matt Dery discussed the fallout on Audacy, pointing to Naylor's reputation around the league and a lack of postseason hustle as key factors.
He praised Hedges as the most respected leader in the Cleveland clubhouse.

The incident adds to a growing list of controversies involving Naylor in June.
Earlier in the month, during a series against the Detroit Tigers, Naylor nearly caused a first-base collision, threw his sliding mitt at an opposing player, and executed an illegal slide into second base.
Tigers infielder Colt Keith noted the polarizing effect of Naylor's aggressive style.
"You like him if you're his teammate, and you hate him if you're the other team," Keith said.
Naylor and Hedges have history dating back to 2019, when both debuted with the San Diego Padres.
