Recent reports from June 2026 have highlighted starkly unusual American hotel experiences, ranging from adventurous vacationers marooned on an offshore tower in North Carolina to a commercial airline pilot filing a lawsuit after being bitten by a bat inside a high-rise Denver hotel room.

Thrill-seekers are paying thousands of dollars to stay at the Frying Pan Tower, a decommissioned Coast Guard light station located 34 miles off the North Carolina coast in an area known as the Graveyard of the Atlantic.

A viral TikTok video posted by charter boat captain Austin Aycock showing him dropping off six tourists has amassed 2.2 million views.
"See you in a couple days!" cheered Aycock as he departed from the structure.
The tower stands 135 feet above shark-infested waters, and guests must be hoisted 80 feet into the air via a high-speed lift to access the accommodation.
Aycock noted in social media interactions that some visitors choose to remain on the isolated steel structure far longer than a standard weekend stay.
"The longest I've had a group stay out there was two weeks!" wrote Aycock.
While the tower features modern amenities like high-speed internet and solar power, online viewers expressed significant trepidation over the remote and hazardous setting.
"Literally like a line out of a horror movie," noted one anonymous viewer.
Other internet commentators quickly agreed that the risk outweighed the appeal of the unique vacation spot.
