The United States men's national soccer team will face Bosnia-Herzegovina in a crucial World Cup round of 32 elimination match on Wednesday in San Jose, California.

The Americans enter the knockout stage as favorites after securing the top spot in their group with victories over Paraguay and Australia, despite a subsequent loss to Turkey.

Bosnia-Herzegovina, ranked 61st in the FIFA rankings, advanced past the group stage for the first time in their history after navigating the European playoffs and securing key results against Canada and Qatar.

Team Perspective After Upsets

U. S.

defender Chris Richards highlighted the shift in perspective after watching major tournament contenders fall early.

"In the moment you're a fan, and then afterward you realize that this is also the same tournament that we're playing.

I think it's a weird dynamic," Richards said.

Richards noted that the recent elimination of prominent teams serves as a warning for the roster.

"But we saw an upset yesterday, so it's making sure that we don't allow that to happen to us," he added.

Forward Christian Pulisic returned to the lineup as a second-half substitute in the previous match after recovering from a calf injury.

"You just want to extend it as long as you can, because some of the best memories I have in my life was last World Cup in Qatar," Pulisic said.

"Now being here, it's just special to be here. You just don't want it to end.
